The project:
20 odd year Old bathroom.
Cracked tiles,
swelling cabinetry
Poor insulation.
The smell of damp.
It was time for a bathroom make over !!!….
Well, I had been promising it for a few years , and slowly accumulating materials whenever I popped into Bunnings. I had a bath gathering dust in the shed under annealed copper piping, timber, tiles and more. I had run out of excuses. It was time to jump into action, finish the book on procrastination, and take a slow walk to the shed , make lists of materials I had already purchased. Jump in the car and head to Bunnings.

- Gyprock CSR 2400 x 1200 x 10mm 2.88sqm Aquachek™ Plasterboard RE
- Uni pro Plasterboard Joining tape.
- Gyprock Stud adhesive
- Gyprock Joint compound Multipurpose
- Builders Edge joint knife
- Plasterboard screws
- Hardie 1800 x 1200 tile underlay
- Paslode 25 x2.5 underlay cement nails (Still having nightmare of hammering in nails)
- Crommeline waterproofing membrane surface primer
- waterproofing tape
- Bastion Wet area Waterproofing membrane ( I purchased too much ..oops)
- Dunlop Floor leveller
- Caroma 1675 Maxton bath it didn't quite fit..NOOOO and i had I couldn't return it won't go into that.(Measure and measure again)
- Johnson Suisse Pressed metal bath. (It fitted)
- Earthwall insulation batts
- Mondella Chrome and black mixing tap
- Shower bath diverter
- Annealed Copper pipe,
- Compression fittings, (List given to me by Plummer mate)

- Tools:
Jack hammer for ripping up tiles.
Plastic sheeting to lay over top of tiles, so to stop splinters flying everywhere

- Step 1:
Plan and Plan again
Measured up the room, and drew up my plans. amended plans, remeasured.
Went to bunnings with my lists.on many occasions
Demolition Day
Put on overalls, Goggles, some headphones, and a bit of Biffy Clyro (Band) for motivation.
Took out old wash basin and cabinets, emptied the room of everything i could.
laid out an area with plastic sheet under which I placed the jack hammer and started ripping up chunks of tiles and cement sheet. I used the sheeting to reduce tile splinters from flying everywhere. Stripped the floor of tiles and old tile sheet.
Cut away Old tiles, and plasterboard Removed bath.(remember to turn off water when attempting this step…oops)
Vaccumed room clean,
- Step 2:
Painted sub floor to seal it before I cut and laid and nailed, and nailed, and nailed, did I mention nailed tile sheet down..
Fitted Wall Insulation into walls.
Measured Studs for future reference ( Very handy to do for positioning shelves ect afterwards
Measued where wiring ran through studs.( good idea)
- Step 3:
Start putting things back
Photos tell it better than I could. including my wife already planning our next project, and time out to see bands.
All in all a lot of mess, a lot of stress, Lots of trips to Bunnings, buying, returning things, buying again, and getting advice. Always great Advice.

I purchased Items, when I saw them on special or found things we liked, and put them away for that rainy day, when we were ready to start the project.
Still have to get a shower screen made up, and shower fittings.
They are coming, very soon.
All in all we loved it.
Our Next project may be the Kitchen, we shall see.
I have also just finished refurbish a deck, having to rebuild some of the sub frame, using timber and ekodecking from Bunning. May get time to share that one too. Also our laundry, not long finished. we shall see.
Did I, mention we also built a full extension a few years ago, and Bunnings played a pivotal role in the materials we used. May even share that one too if i get time.
I send thanks to my Plumber and Sparky mates, who told me what to get, and whilst I bent pipes, and ran wire, they did all the connections and signed it off.
