The project:
Bought a house with an old worn out, poorly designed kitchen and cheap water damaged laminate flooring. Decided to rip everything out and replace with a modern more functional layout.
I had built a couple of smaller new kitchens before but nothing that required the amount of work as this project.
- Materials:
Kaboodle kitchen cabinets.
Kaboodle trim panels for sides of cabinets and custom sized kickboards.
Bunnings 90 x 45mm Framing MGP10 H2 Blue Pine 3.0m x 10 lengths.
Bunnings 40 x 40 slotted angle.
Bunnings Ramset Anchor Plugs and various screws.
Bunnings Oak Floating shelves.
Silica free stone benchtops and splasbacks from Bunnings recommended supplier and installer.
- Tools:
DeWalt Brushless Impact drill.
Bosch Jigsaw.
Ryobi Cordless circular saw.
Hitachi drop saw.
Bandsaw.
Table saw.
- Step 1:
- Step 2:
Removed old cabinets and flooring. Built an oven tower using a Kaboodle pantry cabinet and repositioned shelves to fit double ovens.. Electrician ran new designated power circuits for ovens and induction cook top, and new wiring to central island. Ovens were fitted and connected so we could cook Christmas Dinner.
Plumber installed pipework and drainage for new sink which would now be located in the central island.
- Step 3:
Bolted timber framework for cabinets to floor and secured cabinets to framework using the slotted angle. Had to lay 85 m2 of Blackbutt engineered flooring before I could fit trim panels and to enable benchtop installers to come and measure up for waterfall island, benchtops and splashbacks. Installed overhead cabinets and rangehood.
- Step 4:
Assembled and installed soft close drawers to all cabinets.
Installers fitted benchtops and splashbacks.
Made kickboards to size and installed.
I fitted trim panels to cabinets and also used trim panels to make an enclosure for the fridge and installed dishwasher in island.
Installed oak floating shelves.
