Backyard tea house using recycled materials

The project:

My wife asked me to make a little lean to to sit and have a cuppa. me being me a cant just do it by halves so I make this. Its mostly left over timber or second hand doors, windows etc.

- Materials:

left over decking offcuts, second hand doors from the old napier hospital, old bathroom windows from our place. fence palings. leftover iron on roof. solar lights in windows that come on at night. Old singer sewing machine ends turned into a table.

- Tools:

drop saw, battery drill and ratchet gun. stain and brushes. nail gun

- Step 1:

built frames in shed

lined outside in shed

built floor area and concreted posts

bolted frame to decking and sides

clad inside with deck offcuts and palings

inserted windows and doors

split side doors in half to make into stable doors (for summer breeze)

painted inside of doors

stained outside of doors and decking

fitted solar lights to windows

put roofing on, including strip of grey tint clearlite

This is such a charming little retreat, and it's easy to imagine sitting there with a cuppa and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Your excellent use of second-hand materials and leftover timber is incredibly creative, giving each piece a new purpose while adding so much character to the build. The old doors, windows, Singer sewing machine table and thoughtful finishing touches all come together beautifully to create a space that's full of warmth and personality.
