I have a big canvas weighing 11kg and had a tradie come in to help me hang it using 3M claw hooks (2 x 11kg) so sufficient enough to carry the load however randomly the canvas fell off the wall last night and I was lucky enough for it not to get damaged. It's been on the wall for about 6 months and for some reason decided to fall off. I can't figure out what caused it, there appears to be nothing wrong on the wall hooks or the wall where the hooks were. My reason for choosing the 3M claws was for minimal damage to the wall for when I move out, but I'm now wondering am I going to have to bite the bullet and make 2 regular holes. I have included images of the sawtooth hanger on the back of the canvas, one of the hooks I used and what the wall now looks like. Although the wall appears damaged, the hook seems to fit back in and doesn't glide down which makes me think it's not the hook that's the problem. It may be that the canvas was not properly hooked onto the claw by the tradie?!

So, do I understand correctly that you found the canvas had fallen, but the claw hooks still remained in the wall?
To me, the holes in the wall from the claw hooks don't indicate they've failed, and they look exactly how I would expect them to.
The damage on the back of the frame certainly looks like it could have been caused by a misplaced hook, and if the frame had sat incorrectly on the 3m hook, it could certainly, over time, cause it to fall from the wall.
Based on what you have said and what I can see, I don't think there's really a need to change anything, I think you just need to take care when putting the canvas back on the wall to ensure the hook and the hanger on the frame are actually interconnected.

Thank you for your response. When the canvas fell off the wall, the hooks came off with it so they didn't remain in the wall, the photo I attached was to show how the hook looks if I was to pop it back into the wall into the same holes.
I thought it looked fine too and so was baffled as to how it fell off :( I might try to re-measure the holes to see if they are correctly aligned to the hooks or not. You might be on the nail there with the damage to the back of the frame being caused by potential misalignment when first placed! Will post again if I come across any other bumps! Thank you!
