Concrete barbecue bench with Spotted Gum battens

The project:

love these built in Weber q’s super high temp and super long lasting - so set myself the task of building a slab and enclosing it with a batten cladding.

- Materials:

dingo hi strength concrete

For ply

Two

Silicon spray

Spotted gum battens

Marine ply

pine structure for cladding

- Step 1:

measure up the slab, accounting for openings for the bbq

- Step 2:

cut form ply to account for 100mm width

- Step 3:

build structural supports out of pine structural wood

- Step 4:

pour concrète, vibrating with a hammer and saw

- Step 5:

wait 21 days to set, before polishing with diamond pads on a circular saw, starting with 50, 100,200,400,800

- Step 6:

attach marine ply cladding to encase bbq - leaving space for 42mmx42mm battens

- Step 7:

attach spotted gum battens

- Step 8:

seal wood and concrete

As I mentioned earlier, the concrete top and spotted gum battens look fantastic together. You've done a marvellous job creating a space that will surely be the centrepiece of many wonderful meals and times spent with family and friends.
