The project:
For some time the making of a waterfall appearled to me. So an area 3 m. X 2.6 m. was marked out with profiles after a mud map was drawn up. Eight holes were dug and the catchment pond dug out. Six 125 mm copers logs were put in place along with two 65mm x 65 mm gal. steel posts and all were concreted in place to form the load bearing for the basins. The pond was boxed up and concrete poured .Next the 3x2 hardwood rails were attached. At this point the decorative canopy was formed and finished with 2 coats of mortar. The 3 basins were boxed up and concrete poured. At this point all concrete was sealed with 4 coats of sealer and allowed to dry.
- Materials:
All the materials used in the project were purchased at Bunnings consisting of 6 only 125 mm copers logs, 2 only 65mmx 65mm gal, steel posts , 6 only 3x2 hardwood rails , reinforcing mesh,12 only 12 mm gal. Bolts , timber boxing 4 only 2.4mx 1.2 m.x 17 mm ply , 20 cement
- Tools:
Tools used,concrete mixer and 2 shovels, electric drill and saw, post hole shovel, steel trowel and straight edge.
- Step 1:
While allowing the concrete sealer to dry , a frame was constructed for a bog filter . I used a 200 l. Blue barrel as a bog filter which is filled with rocks and designed to filter the water which is pumped from the pond by a water pump through a 25 mm pvc pipe to the bog filter. The water outlet on the bog filter is higher than the top waterfall and this keeps the water circulating from the pond to the bog filter and over the waterfall.
- Step 2:
At this point, after the pond is filled with water and tested and fined tuned, the water plants and other decorations are added to the pond.
