The project:
We had one of those standard pantry's, built in the corner with four deep shelves where things got lost for a generation.
Now we have our own mini butler's pantry where the air fryer/oven, instant hot water dispenser, smoothie maker, toaster and microwave oven all live in happy hidden harmony.
Beautifully displayed with glass storage containers nothing is lost anymore.
This budget friendly and super easy project required no sawing (done at Bunnings) and required only two tools and liquid nails.
Now opening the pantry door is a pleasure.
- Materials:
Melamine sheets, Acacia brown 1200 x 405 x 18mm sheet, flexi storage shelves 900 x 200 x 16mm, 600 x 200 x 16mm & 600 x 150 x 16mm, flexi storage double slot wall strip and brackets, ezy storage mode square and rectangular plastic storage baskets.
- Tools:
Hammer, drill, mini crowbar & liquid nails.
- Step 1:
After emptying the pantry check to see if screws are holding down the shelves you want to remove. Nails may have been used at the back against the wall. Use the hammer under the shelf to dislodge from the frame.
The frame can also be a mixture of screws and nails. The mini crowbar maybe needed. Use gentle force.
- Step 2:
We used melamine sheets as it covers any damage, but more importantly provides a strong and sturdy support for your shelves, which will be needed with the combined weight of the containers on them.
You will need two sheets horizontally on each wall as one sheet will be to large. There are many sizes depending on your requirement and then have a Bunnings team member cut it to size. We also did the sides with melamine sheets.
Same with the Acacia brown, which we used as the benchtop, have it cut to size instore. We used 18mm sheet as it was being placed on an existing shelf. We used liquid nails on both the melamine and Acacia brown and then screwed the melamine to the wall.
- Step 3:
For the storage containers we used 200mm deep shelves of 600 and 900mm length. For pantry items we used 250mm deep shelves of 600mm length.
We staggered the shelving so no cutting of the shelves was required.
- Step 4:
Below on the existing shelf and floor is storage for bulk and excess items in the ezy storage plastic baskets.
- Step 5:
We were lucky enough to have a power point on the outside wall of the pantry so had our sparky install one on the inside for our appliances.
To complete the look we used sensor lighting.
