The project:
We transformed an old single garage/ old laundry into three practical spaces for our family. We enclosed the laundry to create a separate functional room, converted the remaining garage into a comfortable third bedroom with a built-in robe, feature wall, wall mount TV, air conditioning and custom shelving, while retaining the original roller door to create hidden storage at the front. We installed insulation for soundproof, VJ wall panels, timber acoustic wall panels, fresh paint, lighting, shelving and storage solutions using all products from Bunnings. What was once a cluttered junk garage is now one of the most useful spaces in our home.

- Step 1:
We began by clearing out the combined garage and laundry area and planning how to divide it into three useful spaces.
- Step 2:
The laundry was the first area we tackled. It originally had very little storage or shelving and was completely open to the garage.
- Step 3:
We installed a built-in storage unit that also acts as the dividing wall between the laundry and the new bedroom area and we added VJ panelling above and around the built-in to give the laundry a more finished look and help define it as a separate room.
- Step 4:
We installed extra shelving, hanging space and storage, then prepared and painted the walls and ceiling.
- Step 5:
Once the laundry was complete, we moved on to the main garage area and planned the layout for the third bedroom and the separate roller-door storage space.
- Step 6:
We framed and built a new wall inside the garage, separating the future bedroom from the front section behind the existing roller door. and we added insulation and wall linings to make the bedroom more comfortable and give it a proper finished appearance.
- Step 7:
We repaired and prepared the walls and ceiling, then applied fresh paint, including the black feature wall. We installed VJ paneling
and timber-look acoustic panels to create the feature walls and cleverly conceal the exposed air-conditioning pipes.
- Step 8:
We installed the wall-mounted television, floating shelves, lighting and other finishing touches.We completed the bedroom with a built-in robe, ceiling fan with light, furnishings and improved storage.
- Step 9:
The final stage was completing the smaller storage area behind the original roller door. We retained the working roller door for easy outside access and fitted out the space as a practical storage area for tools, bikes and household items.
- Step 10:
The original open garage and laundry is now three separate, functional areas: a dedicated laundry, a comfortable third bedroom and an easily accessible storage space.
