The project:
We transformed our tired old brown deck into a modern outdoor space to complement the exterior makeover of our home. The decking was painted in a Colorbond Basalt Grey colour, while the balustrades and balcony fencing were finished in Dulux Weathershield Exterior Black to tie in with our Colorbond Basalt Grey garage door and black boundary fencing.
Before painting, we thoroughly cleaned the deck using a pressure washer, sanded heavily weathered areas, and secured loose boards with new nails.
The refreshed colour scheme has completely modernised the space and created a cohesive look across the entire property.

- Step 1:
Step 1
Assess the condition of the deck and plan a colour scheme to complement the home's exterior. We went with the same scheme we just updated, the garage door and fence on the outside permitter, to keep it cohesive.
Step 2
Use a pressure washer to remove dirt, grime, loose paint and weathered surface material.
Step 3
Allow the deck to dry completely before starting preparation work.
Step 4
Sand heavily weathered and rough areas to create a smooth surface for painting.
Step 5
Secure any loose decking boards and panels using new galvanised nails.
Step 6
Clean away all sanding dust and debris.
Step 7
Apply primer to any bare timber or repaired areas as required, or skip all together with Dulux Weathershield, as its a self-priming paint on most previously painted surfaces, so you don't have to use a seperate primer.
Step 8
Paint the decking in a Basalt Grey colour using Dulux Weathershield Exterior Paint.
Step 9
Paint the balustrades and balcony fencing in Dulux Weathershield Exterior Black.
Step 10
Apply any final touch-ups and allow the paint to cure before enjoying the refreshed outdoor space.
