The project:
Built almost entirely from reused and repurposed materials, this all-weather dog kennel combines sustainability with comfort. Fully insulated to stay cool in summer and warm in winter, it features a covered deck, secure run, and separate sleeping areas divided by a half-height see-through wall, giving each dog their own space while allowing them to see each other. Every detail was designed with the dogs’ wellbeing in mind, creating a practical, durable and cosy retreat while giving new life to materials that otherwise would have gone to waste.

- Step 1:
Designed a kennel that would be practical, weatherproof and comfortable, with separate sleeping areas and a secure run while using as many recycled materials as possible.
- Step 2:
Constructed a solid timber base and installed treated pine decking to create a level, durable floor.
- Step 3:
Built the wall and roof frame using reclaimed timber, ensuring it was square and strong.
- Step 4:
Insulated the walls and roof to help keep the kennel cool in summer and warm in winter.
- Step 5:
Attached recycled corrugated iron to the walls and roof to create a weatherproof exterior.
- Step 6:
Created two separate sleeping spaces with a half-height see-through divider so each dog has their own area while still being able to see one another.
- Step 7:
Added a covered front deck using reclaimed posts, rails and decking to provide shade and extra space for the dogs to relax.
- Step 8:
Painted exposed timber where required, checked all fixings, removed sharp edges and ensured the kennel was safe, secure and ready for its new occupants. Painted all tin to finish the look
