The project:
We replaced a standard swinging laundry door with a sliding barn door to create more usable space and add a stylish feature to our home. This was the last thing for us to upgrade after we did a full Kitchen renovation.
After removing the original door, we filled and repaired the old hinge and hardware holes before repainting the area for a seamless finish.
The barn door was purchased from Bunnings and painted in a soft peachy-pink shade, Carnival, using British Paints Clean & Protect Kitchen and Bathroom.
To support the sliding track, we installed a timber mounting board, custom-made, which was painted in Dulux Lexicon® Half to match the adjoining kitchen walls. Finished with matte black hardware and a rolling track system, the new barn door has improved functionality while adding character and colour to the space.

- Step 1:
Step 1
Remove the existing laundry door, hinges and hardware.
Step 2
Fill the old hinge recesses, screw holes and hardware fixing points, then sand smooth once dry.
Step 3
Touch up and repaint the repaired areas so the wall and door frame have a clean, seamless finish.
Step 4
Measure the opening and confirm the barn door size and track position.
Step 5
Cut and prepare a timber mounting board to provide a secure fixing point for the track.
Step 6
Paint the mounting board in Dulux Lexicon® Half to match the adjoining kitchen walls.
Step 7
Paint the barn door in British Paints Carnival using a roller for a smooth finish.
Step 8
Secure the mounting board to the wall and install the barn door track.
Step 9
Attach the matte black handle and hang the door on the track.
Step 10
Adjust the rollers, check alignment and enjoy the extra floor space created by replacing the traditional swinging door.
