Bathroom update with VJ and penny tiles

The project:

The main bathroom need an upgrade and although it was a small space, we reconfigured it to add a toilet and then wanted to give some definitions to the walls by adding V groove panelling. This was our first time tiling, and it's quite funny that we chose a penny tile, not realising it was expert tile. It is gorgeous and really ties the space together. So happy with how it turned out.

- Step 1:

First we had to demo the bathroom. We kept the shower, but we had to tear down tiles on walls and take out the linoleum flooring and trim. We also had to decide on a new layout for our bathroom as we wanted to move sink and add a toilet.

- Step 2:

Here we are taking out tiles off the walls- so old and needing to go!

- Step 3:

With the walls out, we put in new insulation and then completed the tile as well. We also had to move the plumbing, add electrical and put in a drain.

- Step 4:

Then it was time to put up the V groove panelling, which will add something special to the walls.

- Step 5:

Then it was time to finish panelling and add trim.

- Step 6:

We decided to go with Olive Leaf paint on the panelling as a bit of a contrast to the Hog Bristle Quarter that we had on the walls.

- Step 7:

And then here is the final photo with sink, toilet and mirror installed! So happy with the result.

Choosing penny tiles for a first tiling project was certainly ambitious as they can be tricky to work with, but they look fantastic and give the room a real point of difference.

The Olive Leaf VJ panelling adds warmth and character, while the new layout makes excellent use of the compact space. Adding a toilet without making the room feel crowded is a great result.
