The project:
This was an old backyard tin shed. When we first moved in we knew we wanted to turn it into a conservatory for growing plants, entertaining and enjoying the garden in any weather.
All the windows and doors are reclaimed and fitted into the existing steel frame. We used a corrugated polycarbonate roofing to get a greenhouse effect while keeping out the hot summer sun. We also reused the old kitchen cupboards, painted them, changed the handles and put them casters so the space could be flexible. My favourite part is the tool shed section all organised so we can grab what we need easily.

- Step 1:
First we cleared out the shed as much as possible and removed the tin roof sheets, replacing with the polycarbonate roofing as we went.
- Step 2:
Next we collected reclaimed windows and doors from friends, family and neighbours.
- Step 3:
We removed a wall at a time and reframed the windows and doors to fit in between the existing steel frame.
- Step 4:
Next came the weatherboards to match the house and complete the colonial look.
- Step 5:
Guttering was added and then the filling, sanding and taping of the windows in order to paint them began!
- Step 6:
Panneling and plywood completed the internal look which was painted or wallpapered and reclaimed chandeliers and a ceiling fan for the summer was wired in.
- Step 7:
The old kitchen cupboards were painted, handles changed and the units put on casters so they could be used in different configurations in the space. The benchtops we replaced with new rubberwood and selaed them with varnish.
- Step 8:
Finally the time to decorate the space came. Hanging baskets of pottrd colour, festoon lights, a large rug and electric heater/fireplace completed the look.
