The project:
Discovered a water leak behind the ensuite shower wall by poking my finger through it. Thought a patch job might fix it- afraid not! Went the whole hog and replaced the ceramalite panel with structural hardwood ply. Then sealed with waterproof membrane. Then tiled and grouted. Finished off with new chrome taps & rain shower head.
- Materials:
Specrite- 4mm F27 structural hardwood ply, Dunlop Express Wet Area Waterproofing tape, Dunlop Express Wet Area Waterproofing Membrane, Dunlop Wall & Floor Tile Adhesive, Davco Sanitized Colour Grout (grey), QEP 6mm Aluminium Round Edge Tile Trim, Liquid Nails, Selleys No Mould Silicone, Mondella Resonance 300mm Chrome Gooseneck Shower Arm, Estilo Chrome ABS Round Shower Head, Shaw & Mason Chrome Tap Assembly, Basic White 300mm X 600mm Tiles.
- Tools:
Hammer, chisel, power saw, tape measure, tile adhesive trowel, plastic scraper, paintbrush, silicone gun, cordless drill, pop rivet gun, tile cutter, tap spanner.
- Step 1:
Removed existing shower screen to inspect water damage fully.
- Step 2:
Removed ceramalite wall panels and replaced with hardwood ply.
- Step 3:
Sealed entire shower with wet area tape and 4 coats of waterproofing membrane.
- Step 4:
Re installed shower screen frame
- Step 5:
Cut, installed and grouted tiles.
- Step 6:
Fitted new taps and shower head to modernise shower, and improve the look.
- Step 7:
Installed the old shower screen and fully sealed it.
- Step 8:
Finished above the tiles with a painted timber cover strip.
