The project:
We wanted to build in the awning on the side of the shed to create a games/bar room. We also needed somewhere that hubby could set up his home-brew gear instead of in our laundry! The space also would be utilised as a spare guest room. We visited Bunnings MANY times during our build and found the staff to be so helpful, especially the ladies at the Special Orders desk. We have renovated bathrooms and other rooms before, but never a kitchen area. The Kaboodle Kitchen Planner was an essential tool for our project to be able to visualise everything and make sure it would look good.

- Step 1:
We roughly measured our space and designed the initial layout using the Kaboodle Kitchen Planner tool prior to gyprocking and plastering. This was so we could make sure the plumbing and electrical were put in the correct location.
- Step 2:
Once gyprocking and plastering had been completed we tweaked our layout, then started ordering the cabinets we needed. This was a slow process occurring over at least 6 months, as we wanted to make sure we got it right. So we started with the base cabinets along the right side and ordered sections at a time, then completed the other end.
- Step 3:
Whilst we waited for the first lot of cabinetry to arrive, we painted the walls and ceilings with Dulux Wash N Wear in Lexicon Quarter.
- Step 4:
We installed our flooring, followed by the architraves and skirting boards.
- Step 5:
Once all the base cabinets had arrived and we had installed them, we ordered the doors in Olive Grove V-Groove. These were then installed along with the handles and eventually the kickboards.
- Step 6:
Next we moved to the upper cabinets, using the same process of ordering sections at a time, followed by the cabinets doors.
- Step 7:
The last items to be ordered and installed were our customised open shelving in Hazelnut V and benchtops in Hazelnut. The sinks and tapware were then installed.
- Step 8:
Our splashback was created by a local business using our design, then installed by ourselves.
- Step 9:
The timber bar slab was locally sourced. We used a couple of different attachments for the angle grinder to clean up the timber, followed by an orbital sander to finish the timber. After oiling and sealing the timber, we installed it using heavy duty brackets.
- Step 10:
We will eventually install cabinetry around the main fridge, but first we will complete the ensuite!
