The project:
after re-stumping the house and lots of re-patching in the lounge room I decided to give it a freshen up with paint using Dulux lexicon, getting Bunnings to cut Quad and framing out the bottom to tie in with the bedrooms. I painted the bottom half in Dulux oyster linen quarter strength.
- Materials:
sandpaper, paint brushes, Dulux lexicon paint, Dulux oyster linen paint in quarter strength, ceiling white paint deluxe prep paint, 5mmx 30mm quad, leftover skirting boards framed out around the electric fireplace, black metal pro paint for around the fire place.
- Tools:
sander, sandpaper, paintbrush, paint tray, liquid nails, no gaps
- Step 1:
sand and prep all areas. Wipe down walls ceiling skirting as well after sanding.
- Step 2:
I got Bunnings to cut the 2.4 of half for me so they were 1.2 m. I calculated how many I needed along the wall spacing them 60 cm apart. I then got the full quad and put that on top of the half ones to create a frame. I use liquid nails to seal it down. then I use no gaps around all the edges to fill it in. Using a damp cloth and then went over the no gaps.
- Step 3:
as you can see by the pictures I firstly painted the top half of the wall in Dulux lexicon I only did this as I was waiting on more quad from Bunnings and it did make the process easier.
- Step 4:
once the quad was stuck down and then taped around the top of the quad for clean lines. I painted the bottom half of the Dulux oyster linen quarter strength and also the mantelpiece for the fireplace.
- Step 5:
for the fireplace as it’s electric, I used leftover materials that I had in the shed. I used left over skirting boards and cut them down to size with a saw. I used liquid nails on the corners together and screwed it to the fireplace. I would not recommend this process if it was a real fireplace. black metal pro paint as it gave it the that with the fireplace.
