I never thought at 70 I would be applying for an owner builders license to build my retirement home but with the cost-of-living expenses soaring out of control this seemed the only option for my wife and I.
The foundations, framing, roofing, windows, plumbing and electrics required professional help but the remainer of the build is up to me.
Everyday my DIY skills are tested especially with the pillars, wall end flashings and gables.
I am so pleased to have finished the carport and front of the house.

- Materials:
EVERYTHING IN BOLD IS FROM BUNNINGS - OUR ONE STOP SHOP.
Ametalin Vapour Tech Brane VHP Vapour permeable wall insulation.
25mm button head drill point gal scews.
Castellated structural battens 70x36 H3.
Screws10-24x65mm drill point countersunk gal.
Kliplock 700 fixing clip.
Kiplock clip screws.
Colourbond Surfmist cladding.

Paint: Dulux weathershield tinted blue undercoat and "Snap Shot" for the ceiling and walls.
Dulux 1 step white undercoat & Dulux aquanamel vivid white for carport door frame.
Dulux aquanamel 'Wentworth" for doors.
'Surfmist" rivets.
Colourbond "Surfmist" Wall end flashing & Gable end flashing.
Plascourse 300mm x 30mm x 500um Damp course.
Masking tape.

- Tools:
Stanley knife.
Ryobi impact driver.
Ryobi Compact Reciprocating Saw.
Chisel.
Ryobi drill.

Cutting discs.
Tin snips - left, right & streight.
Rivet gun.
Paint brushes, stirring sticks and paint lip spout.

Sand paper & sanding blocks.
- Step 1:
Applied the Ametalin Vapour Tech Brane VHP wall insulation, then the
Castellated structural battens 70x36 H3 with the drill point countersunk screws.
Then I fitted the Kliplock 700 fixing clips with the Kiplock clip screws and applied the
Colourbond Surfmist cladding.
Fitted the door frame ,added the hinges to the door, fitted the door then the handle and lock.
- Step 2:
Added the Hardyflex sheets to the ceiling and painted it.Paint: Dulux weathershield tinted blue undercoat and "Snap Shot" for the top coat.
Attached the plywood & Hardie flex to the pillar then the colourbond wall end flashings & gable end flashings using "Surfmist" rivet's.
Painted the door frame Dulux 1 step white undercoat & Dulux aquanamel vivid white Dulux aquanamel 'Wentworth" for the door.
Fitted the guttering using gutter clips and Hex screws.
- Step 3:
Applied the Ametalin Vapour Tech Brane VHP wall insulation to the crossover centre then the
Castellated structural battens 70x36 H3 with the drill point countersunk screws.
Then I fitted the Kliplock 700 fixing clips with the Kiplock clip screws and added the "Surfmist" cladding panels.
Fitted the Hardieflex panels to the gables then the Gable flashing using "Surfmist"rivets .
- Step 4:
Applied the Ametalin Vapour Tech Brane VHP wall insulation, then the
Castellated structural battens 70x36 H3 with the drill point countersunk screws to the side walls and pillars.
Added the Hardyflex sheets to the ceiling and side walls started painting it.
Paint: Dulux weathershield tinted blue undercoat and "Snap Shot" for the top coat.
Attached the plywood & Hardie flex to the pillars then the colourbond wall end flashings
using "Surfmist" rivet's.
- Step 5:
Finishing off the porch.
Applied "Plascourse" above the windows and doors, then I fitted the Kliplock 700 fixing clips with the Kiplock clip screws and applied the Colourbond "Surfmist" cladding.
Masked and Painted the front door frame with Dulux weathershield tinted blue undercoat & Dulux aquanamel 'Wentworth" for the doors.
Finished painting the roof and walls.-Paint: Dulux weathershield tinted blue undercoat and "Snap Shot" for the top coat.
- Step 6:
Finally Finished.
Added to "BLUE MOON" Roses as the final touch.
