The project:

Hi, I'm nominating my 18-year-old son Jay. He wanted to prove to his friends that he could build a wooden human size, working nutcracker.

- Materials:

Cypress pine, hard wood, steel rods, wood putty, bolts, screws and paints

- Tools:

Chain saw, circular saw, drill, cut off grinder, wooden planes, jigsaw, wooden chisels, tape measure, clamps, hammer, square edge

- Step 1:

Drawing a design, finding cypress pine and hardwood, measuring piece, chain sawing wood into manageable size pieces, circular saw them into shape, jig sawing them, wood planning the pieces, chiseling pieces, putting pieces, sanding, drilling for steel rods and painting

Building a human-sized nutcracker from solid timber is an impressive achievement, especially at just 18. The amount of shaping involved make Jay’s project particularly special. I'm sure it is a fantastic addition to the decorations come Christmas time.
