Adventure-themed kids bedroom transformation

The project:

For Billy’s second birthday I transformed his bedroom into an adventure inspired space that could grow with him. Using paint, styling and some DIY hacks I created a room that encourages imagination, curiosity and play. Every detail from the vintage inspired decor to the camping teepee and ceiling resembling the sky, was chosen to reflect his personality and interests and to create a space he loves spending time in. I wanted to create a space for Billy where he could dream, play, make memories, and be reminded everyday how loved he is.

- Step 1:

Clear out the room. Using the cross line laser tape up a line around the wall for how far the ceiling paint will come down.

- Step 2:

Start painting! I mixed half of the Jodphur Blue paint with some left over white from another project to create a subtle faux limewash look on the ceiling, but you can just paint a solid colour.

- Step 3:

Now its time to paint the feature wall. I used Chat GPT to help me calculate the width of each stripe then used my tape measure and cross line laser to help me keep the tape straight.

- Step 4:

Now that the first colour of stripes are complete its time to take the tape off and repeat the process for the second colour.

- Step 5:

Next I measured up the lengths of trim i needed and cut them to size. I attached them to the wall using liquid nails and my nail gun. I then filled any small holes and gave them a touch up coat of paint.

- Step 6:

Now its time to style and add the finishing touches! Details make the room personal and meaningful so don't skimp on the small things. I used a mix of picture hooks and command strips to place artwork on the walls. A ceiling hook was used for the plane, and plasterboard anchors with screws were used for the bookshelves. I also replaced the handles on the chest of drawers.

Now its time for the final reveal! So proud of how this turned out, and most importantly Billy LOVED his new bedroom!

The lovely colour of the ceiling and bold striped feature wall creates such a playful feel, @NatArcher. It looks like a wonderful place for Billy to call his own.

The vintage decor, teepee and thoughtful finishing touches make it a special room that will grow with Billy and surely be the setting of many wonderful memories.
