Small laundry makeover using storage cubes

The project:

My small laundry was short on storage and had nowhere to hang clothes during Melbourne’s wet, gloomy days. Using three 4-cube storage units, timber battens, angle brackets and a wardrobe rail from Bunnings, I created a budget-friendly storage wall that maximises every centimetre. Towels, cleaning supplies and laundry essentials now have a dedicated home, while the hanging rail makes air-drying indoors simple. This affordable DIY transformed an unused wall into a practical, organised and stylish laundry without the cost of custom cabinetry. The towel shelf will get doors in the future and a sliding rack as iron board just above the washing machine

- Step 1:

cleaned the wall with sugar soap

- Step 2:

used stud finder to locate as many studs

- Step 3:

installed the timber battens at the top and bottom for additional support to the cube shelves

- Step 4:

installed cube storage using angle brackets

- Step 5:

stained the timber batten and installed wardrobe rail

Using cube storage to create some affordable built-in storage was a clever way to maximise this small laundry, @ruch93.

The hanging rail is a particularly practical addition for Melbourne’s wet weather, and the planned ironing-board rack will make the space even more functional.
