The project:
We ripped up the old tiles, made a new bench seat which also doubles as a shoe rack (the top opens) and added some wall panelling.
- Materials:
Bunnings acoustic wall panelling, outdoor tiles, MDF, framing timber, foam and fabric.
- Tools:
Drop saw, drill, tile cutter staple gun, handsaw
- Step 1:
Removed all old tiles from the floor
- Step 2:
Installed new tiles. Cut each tile to size, used tile glue and waited 24 hours to grout.
- Step 3:
Installed timber panelling. This project took 2 timber panel. We had to cut them to size as they were originally too tall for the space. We used a handsaw to cut this.
- Step 4:
Once the panels were cut to size, we used a drill to screw it into the wall.
- Step 5:
Bench seat-
We made a frame for the bench seat which is screwed into the wall. To make the frame, we cut framing timber to size then screwed it into the studs of the wall.
- Step 6:
Once the frame was made, we cut MDF down to size from the front, top and inside to ensure the inside of the bench seat was neat.
- Step 7:
We glued the MDF to the front and inside then the top piece we added 2 hinges onto and screwed into the back support beam to create the lid.
- Step 8:
We then painted the whole thing white.
- Step 9:
To create the top seat we had a piece of foam cut to size and a piece of fabric. To secure the foam we used fabric adhesive spray. We used a staple gun to staple the fabric to the top of the bench seat.
