The project:
Old solid oak, ( including the back panelling with is 12mm sheets of oak, probably 1890-1910 school, industrial lockers that was discarded on a verge, had lost many of the old brass locks, wet and needing some love. Stripped mechanically with blades and sanding, redrilled hinges, all brass and repaired, uncycled doors without locks to enable other handles to be introduced, cleaned, dusted and oiled with furniture oil. It came up lighter and looks much warmer then the original dark colour, good for another hundred or so years.
- Materials:
80grit sand disc down to 240grit, then o’cedar furniture oil, mixed with orange oil
- Tools:
ozito cordless sander, dewalt cordless drill,
- Step 1:
firstly taking all the doors off,
repairing the wood, sanding,
Siting new handles and re applying the hinges ,
numbering the doors as the piece looks hand made and each door was sized differently.
