The project:
This display cabinet was "roadkill" on the side of the road so I brought it home to give it a new life. The doors were missing I so had to figure out a plan of action which was to cut out the middle section and join the two ends to make one enclosed unit. I love the art deco period so this has been a labour of love.
I am a 73 year old retired housepainter and all paints used are old stock that was on hand - some older than 15 years!

Clear golss concrete sealer
sandpaper 80,120, and 180 grit
20mm half round quad
6mm MDF

- Step 1:
Put cabinet in the car and brought it home
- Step 2:
After removing the glass overlay I cut out the middle section with a hand saw and with wood screws
joined the two end pieces to form one unit.
- Step 3:
Sanded all surfaces with 80 & 120 grit sandpaper and undercoasted with Taubmans 3 in 1 primer sealer undercoat.
- Step 4:
Sanded it again with 120 grit sandpaper and undercoated the exterior with grey tinted Taubmans 3 in 1 primer sealer undercoat.
- Step 5:
Filled all gaps with Parfix gap filler, filled cracks and holes with Timbermade wood filler and sanded smooth and undercoated.
- Step 6:
Applied 3 coats of British Paints low sheen interior white to the inside and cut the protruding middle section flush with the top of the cabinet.
- Step 7:
Applied 3 coats of Wattly Solargard low sheen "night Sky" to the exterior surfaces.

- Step 8:
Applied 3 coats of Dulxu Wash ' n Wear matt "Fresco Blue" to trim pieces and 3 coats of clear gloss concrete sealer over that. I then attached the door handles and escutcheon plates.
- Step 9:
Glued "Fresco Blue' trim pieces to cabinet with Parfix Maxi Nails.
Job Done!
