The project:
Transformed the interior by installing decorative wall panelling to create striking feature walls and add warmth, texture, and character throughout the living space. A custom barn door was incorporated to maintain the benefits of open-plan living while providing the flexibility to create a private room when needed. The project enhanced both the functionality and visual appeal of the home, delivering a contemporary, versatile space that balances openness with privacy and creates a stylish, welcoming atmosphere.

- Step 1:
Used a laser leveler to mark the height of rails on wall.
Drilled 6mm holes in the brick wall where wood rails would go, placed spaghetti in holes and fixed 30x18 pine for top rail and 42x18 pine on bottom of wall.
Cut 2.4m panel in half to make panel 1.2m high. Fixed panel onto pine rails using nail gun. Fixed 30x30 pine to top of panel to form frame.
- Step 2:
Used gap filler to fill in gaps. Painted the panels.
- Step 3:
Used laser leveler and marked the height of barn door rail. Fitted 65x18 pine beam where rail is to be fitted by using 6mm wall plugs.
- Step 4:
Got a friend to weld 3 one metre black barn door rails together. Grinded smooth and then sprayed with primer and then flat black paint.
Held rail along pine beam that has been fixed to wall, and marked where fittings go for steel barn door rail. Drilled 10mm holes in concrete wall, used the plugs and fittings with the barn door kit to fix rail to wall.
- Step 5:
Using template supplied, drilled holes in door to fix barn door runner to door.
Applied undercoat to doors and then gave two coats of enamel paint to finish the doors.
- Step 6:
Fitted Barn door runner to doors. Fitted doors to steel beam. Fitted stops to guide where door opens. Fitted guides to floor for doors.
