The project:
My back deck had a very small set of steps and i wanted something to run the entire 4.3 metres of deck, a place to sit as well as a functioning stair access to this deck area, i wanted it to keep the open space feel and for it to flow into the backyard

- Step 1:
This is the before, so removed old steps, levelled ground and measured the lengths required
- Step 2:
I decided on a set of three boxes essentially that would sit on top of each other, the widest at the bottom, the middle box smaller and the top box smaller again until they resembled steps! I based my measurements on having each step 3 decking boards wide
- Step 3:
Luckily the existing deck had some pretty decent posts in the ground so i secured the boxes (steps) into those with the 100mm bugle screws and they definately are not going anywhere, they were very heavy!
- Step 4:
I did use some scrap timber to fasten the boxes together every couple of joists but again they are heavy enough to hold themselves down. The only thing i'd do differently is i'd use dressed instead of rough sawn timber, it does look good but dressed would have been nicer! I mitred the corner decking boards and i used treated pine tufcote screws. Only four ingredients in this build!
