The project:
The area along the side of the house was a bare paddock. It was a side entrance and had a veiw from the lounge and dining windows. I wanted to install a 'Zen' style garden with a water feature with some seating to relax at. The area was to be lite at night using a combination of solar and 12volt power.
- Materials:
400x400 pavers, 3 tier fountain, various plants both purchased from your nursery, and from my own garden, various garden statues, treated pine garden sleepers, garden chairs and table, various led lighting kits (x4 and x10), pebbles of various sizes. Outdoor power boxes with timers for both lighting and water feature.. I had my electrician to install power points so that the lighting could be plug and play.
- Tools:
Most of the work was labour from my wife and I using standard garden tools, a chainsaw to cut the garden sleepers to size ad wheel barrow to cart in the pebbles. The 2 large sandstone boulders were on the property hen we purchased the house. Hammer and nails and just hard work. All of the vegetation was to be placed in pots so that they can be moved around and so that the pebbled surface and be easily weeded and or treated for a weed free easy maintainance area.
- Step 1:
- Prepare the area- Clear weeds and unwanted vegetation and erect a fence and gate around the area using a local contractor.
- Measure the area and draw a detailed plan including where power would be delivered.
- Cut and install the area for the fountain, assemble the fountain and connect the power, fill and test the running.
- Place the plants in the desired places determined by their features, size, light requirements and maintenance needs.
- Placing the statues and static decorations in position to achieve maximum effect.
- Install all of the lighting with the cables running in hidable area (before laying the pebbles.)
- Laying the pavers over existing concrete path ensure spacing is correct.
