The project:

Our kitchen renovation transformed a tired 1970s varnished timber kitchen into a timeless, highly functional space that complements the character of our Californian Bungalow. We wanted a design that balanced modern practicality with period-inspired style, creating a kitchen that works beautifully for everyday family life while respecting the home's heritage. The Kaboodle Heritage range provided the perfect blend of classic detailing and quality finishes, helping us achieve a warm, inviting space that feels both authentic and contemporary. The result is a kitchen that has become the heart of our home, seamlessly combining style, functionality and enduring appeal.

- Step 1:

Draw up the Kitchen in Kaboodle:

Prepare the room – Remove the old kitchen, repair walls, patch any damage, and ensure the floor and walls are clean and ready for installation.

- Step 2:

Mark out the kitchen layout – Use a laser level to establish a level datum line around the room and mark the positions of all base cabinets, wall cabinets and the bulkhead.

- Step 3:

Assemble the cabinets – Build all Kaboodle cabinet carcasses according to the instructions, ensuring they are square before fitting the doors and drawers later.

- Step 4:

Install the base cabinets – Position the cabinets, level them using adjustable feet and packers where required, then clamp and screw adjoining cabinets together before fixing them securely to the wall.

- Step 5:

Install the wall cabinets – Using the laser level, mount the wall cabinets so they align perfectly with the base cabinets, then secure them to the wall framing and to each other.

- Step 6:

Construct the bulkhead – Build a timber frame above the wall cabinets, checking it is level and straight before lining it with plasterboard or MDF.

- Step 7:

Finish the bulkhead and roof Plastering – Tape joints where required, apply filler, sand smooth, then undercoat and apply two coats of paint to match the room.

- Step 8:

Fit filler panels and trims – Install end panels, fillers, cornices and kickboards, scribing where necessary to achieve neat, tight fits against walls.

- Step 9:

Caulk and touch up – Apply paintable gap filler or caulk to cabinet-to-wall joints, bulkhead edges and trim joins, then complete final paint touch-ups for a seamless finish.

- Step 10:

Install doors, drawers and hardware – Fit hinges, drawers and handles, adjust all door and drawer gaps for perfect alignment, and complete a final inspection before installing the benchtop and appliances

The Heritage cabinetry, elegant stone surfaces and thoughtful lighting create a space that feels timeless, warm and incredibly welcoming. I especially love how the new layout flows so naturally, making the kitchen both beautiful and highly functional for everyday living. The addition of the stylish coffee and wine station is the perfect finishing touch.
