The project:
Our previous laundry space was not particularly inviting, as it was limited in size and lacked user friendly features. It included blocked-off taps from a previous hot water system, which limited functionality. Our goal was to create a practical laundry space with ample room for folding clothes and individual baskets for each family member, including under-shelf storage for small items like socks- and practical design elements, such as non-slip flooring.

- Step 1:
Once an initial design was developed, the entire contents of the laundry area were entirely cleared. The tiles and plaster were carefully removed from the walls, as well as the floor tiles. After the floor tiles were taken out, the flooring specialist proceeded to sand the concrete surface in preparation for the installation of the new flooring.
- Step 2:
The plumber came to organise and to remove redundant piping, while the electrician had a thorough clean up of the wiring system and installed additional wiring for power points.
Upon completion of the the above tasks, the plasterer installed a new plasterboard wall.
- Step 3:
Next the surface was coated with British Paints 4-in-1 primer and undercoat, and the wall colour was selected as White Albatross. Once the painting was completed, the new laminate flooring was installed.
- Step 4:
Time to assemble the carcasses and construct a frame suitable for the ironing board. A timber frame was required to elevate the sink carcass to align with the height of the ironing board carcass.
- Step 5:
A frame was fabricated to facilitate the attachment of the drawer slides to the ironing board, enabling it to be easily pulled out as required. Once this task was complete, the plumber returned to install the sink and associated tapware. Additionally, the washing machine and dryer were re-installed.
- Step 6:
We then assembled the flat-pack cube unit and attached a painted plywood backing board to improve the structural integrity. This modification helped with securing the unit to the wall studs. By utilising the remaining melamine board, a corner open-end shelf was constructed, with edges finished using melamine iron-on tape. Kickboards were installed, including a custom-made kickboard designed for the sink carcass, which was finished with a gloss wrap.
- Step 7:
A sheet of clear acrylic Perspex was used as the splashback. This original artwork was created by our family. We used templates as guides, and the design was rendered on the reverse side by using a layering technique with acrylic paint. Once the paint was dry, the splashback was installed, the trim attached, and silicon sealant applied.
