Dulux Government Green feature wall

The project:

As the main wall that you see when entering my home, I wanted to make it a focal point and make it really stand out! I was inspired by board and batten style and the colour of Dulux Government Green.

- Materials:

• 9mm plywood cut into boards

- Tools:

Hammer, Ozito drill, spirit level, paintbrush and roller

- Step 1:

This is the area before the makeover

- Step 2:

Initially the panelling was going to go all the way to the ceiling with the wall all one colour - I started by painting the walls with 2 coats of Dulux Government Green and measuring/marking out the spacing for the panelling.

- Step 3:

Once the plywood board was cut to size, primed and painted each panel with Dulux Government Green.

- Step 4:

Partway through the project I was inspired to use the board and batten style for 2/3 of the wall, with Dulux Domino for the top 1/3. Using a hammer and nails, attached the panelling to the wall and attached shelf brackets using screws into studs were possible. Selley's No More Gaps for interior use was used to fill any gaps along the sides of the panels, and Spakfilla was used to fill all nail holes. Once dry, sanded the Spakfilla smooth and painted with Dulux Government Green.

- Step 5:

Dressed pine was cut to size and primed and painted with Dulux Domino and attached using screws to the shelf brackets to create a shelf to display knick knacks.

- Step 6:

An LED lighting strip was attached just below the ceiling cornice using small angle brackets. A thin strip of plywood was painted in Dulux Domino and attached in front of the lighting strip to direct the light downwards. A small gap was left between the wall and the leftmost panel to allow room for the cabling for the lighting strip to run down to the power point underneath.

- Step 7:

Rehung the clock using a screw, moved furniture back into place and decorated.

This feature wall has made such a striking impact! The rich Government Green paired with the board and batten detailing adds so much depth and character, creating a beautiful focal point that instantly draws the eye. The picture ledge, subtle lighting and styling finish the space perfectly, giving the room a warm, welcoming feel. It's a fantastic example of how a thoughtful feature wall can completely elevate a living space.
