The project:
This is a new build for weekend get together with family and friends. Easily one of the best investments we ever made.
- Materials:
Benchtop from Bunnings, Titan 6 Burner BBQ from Bunnings, DIY Pizza Oven kit from Bunnings, Doors below BBQ a gate from Bunnings (you can see the theme here 🤣), Formply from Bunnings, Woodstain from Bunnings. Brickwork with the help of family and friends. Blind found on sale at Spotlight. Laserlite roof made from some recycled materials. Fridge was a very appreciated Christmas present. Live edge bench from a timber supply workshop.
- Tools:
Sherlock wheelbarrow, trowels, Stanley Fatmax tape measure, hand tools, Ryobi one+ drills, angle grinder & blower.
- Step 1:
After a lot of measuring, I decided to remove specific rows of paving and replace them with concrete for brickwork installation.
- Step 2:
Brickwork was set and left to cure for a few days (it happens to be Christmas and Boxing Day).
- Step 3:
Formwork was set for concreting the base of the pizza oven. This was done in an electric mixer that I was able to Hire from Bunnings as well! Again this was left for a few days to cure.
- Step 4:
The pizza oven was built as per the instructions provided. This took a couple of days to complete, although with some hindsight and newfound knowledge it probably could have been done in a day.
- Step 5:
Pizza oven and fridge were installed and given a test run whilst the pizza oven was burnt in for use.
- Step 6:
Benchtop and gates were added to help finish off that end. This is still ongoing! My wife wants to do some mosaic work around the pizza oven to tidy up the raw concrete finish. I have bought a slimline shed (from Bunnings) to tidy up and remove the shelving you can see on the right-hand side of the photos. Lighting still needs to be done, that will probably be next as it gets a bit dark over the bench trying to make pizzas 😊
- Step 7:
Not really another step, but just a note that this was worth the work and effort. We have had some great times (and many more to come). It is a slow process, just doing things as we can afford to do them but the memories are what make it amazing.
