The project:
The idea was hatched when a friend demolished an old garage and we were able to reclaim the hardwood frame. The She-Shed has been built to showcase that beautiful hardwood frame and provide a dedicated space for candle making, resin pours, and concrete casting. With the addition of a sauna, it has become a wonderful wellness space too. A reclaimed Bunnings Kaboodle kitchen provides some much-needed workspace and storage. Those typical building features that are normally hidden away such as the frame, electrical system and insulation have been made into outstanding features.

- Step 1:
A good footing is always a great place to start. Galvanised steel posts and concrete to keep everything in place.
- Step 2:
Build the floor, sub floor and wall framing. Get those diagonals secure!
Pryda triple grips really help prevent the old hardwood splitting during assembly.
- Step 3:
A reclaimed colorbond roof, complete with alternating colours. Don't forget the insulation.
Wrap with moisture barrier foil and add some cladding for a classic shed look.
- Step 4:
Make that reclaimed hardwood frame a feature to be proud of. A quick lick with the plane and some rounded edges courtesy of the router and it looks fantastic. Add a splash of clear coat to keep it looking like it was fresh cut yesterday.
- Step 5:
Electrical installations don't need to be hidden away or conform to the usual straight lines and bland colours, dress that installation up with hot air bending and metal like paint. With an electrician in the household, there's no surcharge for artistic installations!
Switch on the party lights and add the 80's music!
- Step 6:
Install the reclaimed Kaboodle kitchen, shelving, carpet tiles and TV.
- Step 7:
Make a feature out of insulation using balustrade wire and fittings to hold it in place. We don't want to hide that beautiful hardwood!
- Step 8:
Add artistic supplies and wellness facilities then mix until the perfect blend of creative healing chaos is achieved.
- Step 9:
Close the blinds, lock the door and ignore the "What's for Dinner" cries from the rest of the household!
