The project:
From forgotten to feature piece! I transformed these dated bedside tables into playful designer-inspired furniture using paint and for the handles I used wooden drink coasters sourced from Kmart! I completed this project to challenge myself creatively while giving quality furniture a second life instead of adding to landfill. It shows that with a few Bunnings supplies and a vision, anyone can create something unique, stylish and sustainable.

- Step 1:
- I found a pair of solid timber bedside tables that had good bones but were looking a little tired. After giving them a thorough inspection, I decided they would be perfect for a makeover.
2. I removed the handles and lightly sanded all surfaces to remove the old finish and create a smooth base for painting. I then cleaned away all dust with a damp cloth.
3. I applied a primer followed by 2 coats of Porters paint - Old stone Wall, allowing each coat to dry completely before lightly sanding between coats for a smooth finish.
4. Once the paint had cured, I carefully measured and masked the drawer fronts with painter’s tape to create evenly spaced stripes. I painted the exposed sections in green and removed the tape while the paint was still slightly wet to achieve crisp, clean lines.
5. After the paint had fully dried, I applied a clear protective topcoat to help protect the bedside tables from everyday wear and make them easy to clean.
6. I wanted large wooden handles so I sourced wooden drink coasters from Kmart and mounted a. Bracket on the back and attached to the bedside drawers. The fresh green striped design gives them a modern, unique look while keeping the original furniture out of landfill.
