50-year-old laundry makeover using Kaboodle

The project:

It was time to renovate the laundry in our nearly 50 year old house. The laundry had not been modified since it was built, so it needed a face lift. We stripped everything back to the walls and set about making it a new modern laundry to match the rest of the house renovations we had completed over the last 6 years.

All other tools I already had.

- Step 1:

First step was clearing the room and removing all the old cabinetry, basin and tapware.

- Step 2:

The next steps was relocating the taps for the sink to below cabinet level. The existing taps for the washing machine and dryer was also blanked off. We also removed the exit door to the backyard as we never used it and wanted to reclaim the space for extra benchtop/cabinets. Also filled the recess from the old basin with concrete so that it was level with the rest of the floor.

- Step 3:

Once the services was relocated we could then start installing the floor and wall cabinets as well as the benchtop.

- Step 4:

Once the floor and wall cabinets were in, and we put on the cabinet doors, the next step was flooring. We laid the floating hybrid floor directly over the existing tile. It was a good choice and saved and lot of time, money and mess.

- Step 5:

Once the floor was in, the next step was installing the tiles. Once the tiles were on we finished with grouting and trim. During this step we also relocated the power outlet to below the cabinet.

Every detail, from the sleek cabinetry and benchtops to the fresh splashback and clever storage, creates a space that looks both stylish and practical.
