Kaboodle laundry reno on a budget

The project:

We moved our laundry as part of our full home reno because it was right where our future kitchen needed to go. With three kids, we needed something practical, affordable, and quick. We designed and built the space ourselves, using Kaboodle cabinetry, a Bunnings benchtop, and handles to create a luxe look on a budget. It’s now a functional, hardworking space that actually keeps up with our chaos—and looks good doing it.

- Step 1:

Firstly, we cut a hole in the brick wall, installed the new window and framed up the new space.

- Step 2:

After the plumber and electrician had been in, we gyprocked and set the walls using base coat and topping coat, sanding in between layers and to get a smooth finish before getting someone in to take care of the waterproofing.

- Step 3:

Then we tiled the floor and skirting using the tile levelling clips and wedges

- Step 4:

We then made up and installed most of our Cabinetry, everything except the doors. We chose Maplenut cabintry for an earthy, neutral look.

- Step 5:

Then we gap filled and painted the room usuing Dulux wash and wear in matt finish in lime white quarter

- Step 6:

We then marked and cut our custom order Kaboodle Salt Pan benchtop to suit the length of the wall and secured it in place. Then cut a hole in the benchtop for the sink to fit in to using a circular saw and jigsaw before securing it in place using liquid nails and silicone to seal it in. Then cut a hole for the tapware using a circular saw

- Step 7:

We then tiled the splashback using the vertical stacked method. We firstly set the tiles out along the benchtop to make sure that we weren'g going to end up with a small cut at the corner. Once we were happy and had made all our cuts, using a laser level we started from the bottom left and worked our way across, gluing the tiles down using spacers to keep a perfect gap. Then grouted the splashback and siliconed where the splashback meets the benchtop.

We then grouted the floor tiles and splashback at the same time

Then we installed cabinet doors using the kaboodle soft close hinges and screwed the handles on the doors using the kaboodle door handle template

- Step 10:

Then we got the electrician in to do the final fit off with downlights, powerpoints and under cabinet strip light

You've created a stylish and highly functional space that makes the most of the available room. The Maplenut cabinetry paired with the vertically stacked splashback gives the laundry a modern look, and it's a great example of how thoughtful planning and a few well-chosen finishes can achieve a premium result on a budget.
