The project:
I built a handmade busy board as a first birthday gift to encourage learning through play. The board is designed to safely mimic real-life objects that toddlers are naturally curious about, helping develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving and independence.
It includes a range of interactive activities such as locks, latches, hinges, pipes, switches, spinning parts, tool-themed elements and sensory features, giving little hands lots to explore.
- Materials:
I used a mix of salvaged items and new hardware and fixed to a sanded and painted board. I was concious of sustainability and cost so repurposed items where I could and used paint samples pots from the clearance section to make the board visually appealing for toddlers
- Tools:
Saw, drill, power drill
- Step 1:
Sanded, primed and painted an mdf board
- Step 2:
Cleaned and restored items to be attached
- Step 3:
Determined layout
- Step 4:
Fixed everything to the board
