Bar fridge upgrade to match new games room

The project:

I was making over a room in our house as a surprise games room/ whiskey den for my husband, and a big part of that was a new bar fridge. I really wanted it to match the room, rather than be a big white rectangle in a dark room, so decided to give it a makeover.

- Step 1:

I went and found a perfect sized bar fridge to fit where I needed it

- Step 2:

I sourced some vinyl online in almost the exact same shade as the new Dulux Raku wall colour.

- Step 3:

I started by covering the sides of the fridge in the vinyl wrap, making sure to get the air bubbles out with a plastic scraper as I went.

- Step 4:

Next I had the difficult task of starting to tackle the grill at the front. I used loctite vinyl glue on the corners of the big pieces, and edges of the smaller pieces, for durability.

- Step 5:

I measured the door frame and headed to bunnings for some timber moulding.

- Step 6:

I ended up buying 3 lengths of moulding. One to cover the corner edges, one to cover what was left of the sides, and one to cover what was left on the front.

- Step 7:

I measured 2 more times, and then cut my edge trim to start my frame, and attached it with Selleys kwik grip. I don't really have any pictures of this stage except this terrible one

- Step 8:

I then did the same with the front and sides, so the door showed minimal white, making sure to have cut outs for the handle and lock barrel

- Step 9:

I filled any small gaps with Timbermate walnut wood filler, and stained it with Cabot's water based walnut stain and varnish

- Step 10:

And the end result showing the front and sides. Time to put it in place and stock it!

This is such a creative project. Wrapping the fridge to match the room and adding the stained timber trim has turned a standard white appliance into a feature that looks right at home in the games room. I'm sure your husband was thrilled with the surprise.
