The project:
Installed a new kitchen using Bunnings Kaboodle and sustainable products. The kitchen was updated from a single bench to a galley with new appliances. The original Kitchen was from a 1969 build.

Bench top
- Tools:
jigsaw, circular saw, drop saw, hammer, pliers, drill etc.
- Step 1:
Remove the old kitchen by detaching the bench top, disconnecting cupboards and pulling out the sink. Pull up the cork floor. disconnect the oven and remove.
The kitchen tiles were glued directly to the plasterboard. It was easier to cut out whole sections of plaster board than remove the tiles. I purchased plasterboard, cut and replaced where I had removed tiles. This also included removing the old rangehood and patching the extractor hole. I plastered, sanded, re plastered and painted to fix the wall.
- Step 2:
Pre make all kaboodle cupboards. Cut holes for plumbing, put cupboards in place as per kaboodle instructions.
Measure and cut the Bench tops. Mark the sink and oven holes. Cut benchtops using a bench saw, drill hole into the sink and stove spaces and use a jigsaw to cut to size.
- Step 3:
Coat the bench tops with Cabbots benchtop clear, sanding between coats. I did 5 coats in total.
Place the bench tops in place and connect to the floor cupborads.
Hang the wall cupboards, I created a brace for the cupboards to hang them as the studs were not ideally located.
I also added all the doors, drilled all the handle holes and installed them at this point. I also connected the new dishwasher to the plumbing at this point which required cutting a hold into the sink cupboard.
- Step 4:
Drop in the new sink. Connect the new double sink, and make 3 or 4 trips to bunnings to get the correct plumbing pieces so that it all works. 3 to 4 trips isn't necessary, but that is what I did (must be a DIY).
- Step 5:
Move the oven wiring under the house from the original oven spot to the new oven spot. Run an additional electrical wire from the new oven spot to the electrical board (have an electrician connect it up) so that the stove and oven are on separate circuits. This is imperative when you purchase a new induction stove top as it draws significant energy.
- Step 6:
Additional power points and updates: due to moving the microwave box, adding a dishwasher and a simple restructure, new power points where added or old ones moved to more ideal locations. Supplies such as the power points them selves, connectors etc where all purchased from bunnings.
- Step 7:
Measure and cut the recycled plastic backsplash. This was done with a circular saw and a jigsaw for small cuts. Install using the neighbours nail gun and an adhesive. Use adhesive to place the stainless steel backsplash behind the stove.
I connected all of the power points and put them back in place.
- Step 8:
Measure, cut and lay the floor boards. I also put on all the end pieces for the floor and wall cupboards the added the skirting boards and the kick boards.
- Step 9:
I also updated the laundry at the same time. The hot water system was moved outside to create more room. I added a bench (same as the kitchen), replaced the old metal sink with a cupboard and sink from Bunnings and replaced the wall cupboards with the same doors as the kitchen. I also removed the tiles and used the same backsplash as in the kitchen. I will add a picture later if possible once I have finished the floor. In the before picture above you can see I have already added the bench top in the laundry, but have not replaced the cupboards or backsplash.
