1920s-style speakeasy cocktail bar dining room transformation

The project:

We had an unused dining room that was turning into a dumping ground. Decided to have a school holiday project to make it into a plush, lush emerald 1920s era Speakeasy cocktail bar. An amazing marketplace find of the circular lounge and a bit of planning and we pulled off my favourite room in the house. 💚🍸️

- Step 1:

• Sourced 2nd hand bar from marketplace. Sanded and repainted the metal from grey to black.
• Taped up the walls and painted.
• Cut to size, sanded and sealed or sanded and painted (will help of Border Collie Scarlet!) tassie oak timber edging
• Sourced 2nd hand marketplace velvet lounge

- Step 2:

• Attached shelving to walls, glasses rack to shelving and feature timber edging to front of bar, bar wall and edges of shelving
• attached laser cut acrylic sign to front of bar
• put together the rest of the furniture, attached led strip lighting and 'Emerald' bar feature light
• added plants, decor, soft furnishings and bar stock and installed the main feature light

What an incredible transformation. The rich emerald walls, velvet circular lounge and warm lighting create such a convincing 1920s speakeasy atmosphere.

It’s great to see how the second-hand bar and lounge have been given a new life, with the timber detailing, plants and gold accents tying everything together beautifully.

You’ve certainly turned an unused room into a real destination within your home.
