Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance.

A back-to-wall suite can hide a lot of the pipework, but the isolation valve still needs to remain serviceable. It shouldn’t be buried somewhere that can’t be accessed without removing the toilet, and any pipework changes or relocation of the stop tap would need to be done by a licensed plumber.

The wall-fed toilet is likely to be the easier one to adapt, provided the new toilet’s inlet position and set-out suit the existing plumbing. The floor-fed toilet is more likely to be an issue, as the skirted sides of many back-to-wall pans can clash with pipework coming up through the floor. In that case, the neatest result would usually involve having the supply moved into the wall or into the cistern area by a plumber.

For compatibility, the key measurements are the trap type, the set-out from the finished wall to the centre of the waste, and the exact position of the water inlet. Something like the https://www.bunnings.com.au/mondella-signature-white-rimless-back-to-wall-toilet-suite_p4823018 has an adjustable S-trap set-out of 90-180mm and can suit bottom or rear entry, but the photos and measurements would need to be checked carefully before purchase. The https://www.bunnings.com.au/caroma-luna-cleanflush-wall-faced-toilet-suite_p0180850 is another option worth comparing, as there are bottom and back inlet variants depending on the installation.

Got a question for the wall-fed toilet, which has an S trap setout of 160mm. I'm considering the Mondella Cadenza Close Coupled Toilet I/N 0095294. The pan is open at the back, not sitting flush against the wall, so it should allow the cistern stop valve to stay where it is, and still remain accessible.

Does this item include an adjustable S-trap connector to adapt to 160mm? The specifications say 90-145mm S Trap Setout. It also says it includes "Vario Bend for S Trap". This is the only thing stopping me from buying this good-looking toilet.

The vario bend is the adjustable piece that allows the toilet to suit the stated 90–145mm set-out range. It can be rotated and positioned to connect the pan outlet with the existing waste pipe at different distances within that range.

However, your measured 160mm set out is still outside the manufacturer’s specification. The vario bend is not an additional adjustment on top of the 90–145mm range, so it is unlikely to allow the toilet to be installed correctly at 160mm.

It is always best to check with your plumber before purchase, so I’d recommend confirming the measurement and suitability with the licensed plumber who will install the toilet before purchasing it. They will appreciate knowing that you are trying to purchase something that they can install easily and if it can be adapted to suit without major changes, they should be able to advise.

Thanks Jacob. One more question please? Can I add the Kinetic 20mm Universal Vario Bend Offset Trap Adaptor I/N: 4760135 to increase the 145mm setout provided by the included Vario Bend?

Reno project nearly complete.

For the common bathroom, I used Ventnor Toilet Suite from Bathrooms For You.

For the ensuite, Mondella Cadenza from Bunnings. Bad choice and / or bad plumber because the installed toilet's cistern was 8cm from the wall after installation, although the Cadenza specs say it supports 90-146 mm S Trap. There was no space to use an adapter to increase the setout.

The warranty team from Mondella sent a not-our-problem type of response that left me a bit disappointed, so I had to live with it. I've had problems before with toilet suites, but responsible manufacturers send their plumber and provide replacement with labour if something isn't as per specifications or standards.
