Thanks for looking into this issue

Found out that the strut is a bit faulty it's ends don't align with the holes. Fixed by bending the silver side with a pliers until it fitted nicely.

I'd be at best guessing without knowing how the bed is constructed, however it does seem like there should be a bracket or something similar attached to the bed base that the metal rod sits in, with the loop at the top screwed into the bed frame.

What do the instructions say?
