The handle's thread has eroded so it falls out of the tap. If I epoxy it back on, it will block access to the nut that holds it onto the wall & complicates future replacement.
What would you recommend?

The first thing I'd suggest you try is giving the threads on both the handle and the knob a good clean. Try spraying the threads with some https://www.bunnings.com.au/clr-750ml-ready-to-use-calcium-lime-rust-remover_p0356353 , allowing it to sit for a minute or two, then giving them a scrub with a stiff brush, such as these https://www.bunnings.com.au/josco-3-piece-hand-wire-brush-kit_p6114348 or a stiff bristled toothbrush.
If there is any thread left after a good clean, then you could try wrapping the thread on the handle with some teflon tape, which will help to fill any gaps in the internal thread and help to give a snug fit.
Otherwise, using an adhesive or epoxy to stick it in place is about your best option outside of replacement if the thread has completely stripped.
