In our new place, one of the rooms is clearly an old garage which has been blocked off and is now an internal room. We want to lay some wooden flooring in there, I'm looking for advice on what is the simplest way to do this. I'm getting a lot of varying advice, so hoping to cut through that to a practical solution. I don't want this project to blow out in complexity and cost.
The room will become a gym. We've looked at rubber flooring but the smell is intense, and the ventilation only adequate, so rubber flooring is not an option.
We want engineered wood, as this will match the rest of the interior, and also gives us scope in the future to use the room in a different way.
Some advice insists upon doing a moisture check on the slab. Other advice says you can go straight to a plastic underlay sheet and then lay the wood on top. Some advice insists on epoxy as a water barrier. Some advice says essential to put a sub floor in. I'm now quite unsure of what is essential vs overkill.
Picture attached, the room is ground floor, you can see the concrete is marked from cars being in there previously. Its about 3m x 4m, so 12sqm.
