How to install mixer tap raised cartridge?

Hello,

I took my old mixer tap cartridges (flat for the kitchen mixer tap and raised for the bathroom mixer tap) to Bunnings, and the helpful staff assisted me in finding the correct replacements. I purchased two raised 35mm cartridges.

I have successfully replaced the cartridge in my kitchen mixer tap.

However, after replacing the cartridge in my bathroom mixer tap and turning the water back on, water started shooting out from the cartridge stem (the part where the mixer tap handle attaches).

The water is not leaking from around the cartridge itself. Instead, it is coming directly out of the cartridge stem.

This seems very strange to me. Could anyone please advise what might be causing this? Is the cartridge faulty, or could I have installed it incorrectly?

EDIT: I used the second new cartridge and it shot water out as well. When I used back the original cartridge, no water leaked or shot out

Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the cartridge could be defective or it might not be sitting properly in the mixer tap. I propose taking the cartridge back to the store and exchanging it for a new one. Should the same issue occur, I suggest engaging the services of a licensed plumber to assess the condition of your tap mixer.
