I sprayed this 4mx3m pergola with some clear protective sealant last year. I don't want to spray this year, I wasted too much product. What should I use to paint it and how much will be required? Thanks for any advice.

What you’re able to apply over the pergola really comes down to what product was used previously. Do you happen to know the name or type of clear protective sealant you applied last year?
Since you’re looking to recoat it after a year, I suspect it might have been an exterior timber oil rather than a varnish or clear exterior coating, which would typically last longer. If it were an oil, you should have a number of exterior timber oils to choose from, and these can be applied with a brush rather than spraying, which should help minimise wastage. The amount of product required depends on how dry the timber is and how much it draws in. I suspect that it would be best to pick up a 4L can and any remaining can be used for later applications.
