I have purchased a Ryobi REBCTA10 brush cutter attachment, which I have used and am happy with it.
My question is what is the rod attached to the instruction book for?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
It is a locking pin which is inserted into a slot underneath the trimmer head to stop the blade from moving when loosening and tightening the bolt that holds the blade in place. It is mentioned on page 12 and 13 of your manual.
