How to fill screw holes in exterior brick render?

Hi BW Community,

We had some scaffolding on our roof. On our neighbours side they needed to screw into the brick render. We intend at some point in repairing this and repainting, but in the meantime, should i be filling in the holes with a silicone of some type?

Hi @simonmckb,

I would suggest you skip the silicone and just go straight to the render repair because it is not particularly difficult to do.

Start by tidying up the holes to ensure there is no loose material. Then, fill the holes with

and use a lightly damp sponge, rubbing in a circular motion to help blend in and texture the filler. Once happy with the look, let it dry.

After drying, spot prime the repaired patches, then paint over everything with a roller.

It's not much more work than filling them with silicone, but it is a finished repair that you won't need to go back and change at a later date.
