How to clean roller blinds?

Hi BW Community,

We have roller blinds throughout our house. All are made from the same fabric, apart from those that are dual blinds, which have a blackout blind fabric.

Can these been "cleaned'? If so, what steps and materials do i need to do this?

Some have stains on them, one (a kitchen blind) possibly has a build up of grease over the years from cooking.

Yes, roller blinds can certainly be cleaned. For general dust and light marks, I'd start by vacuuming them using a soft brush attachment along the lines of these https://www.bunnings.com.au/powerfit-35mm-2-piece-workshop-vacuum-brush-set_p0949098 , then wiping them gently with a damp microfibre cloth.

For the more stubborn staining and particularly the grease build-up on your kitchen blind, a steam cleaner could be a good option. Steam can help loosen grease and embedded grime without needing to saturate the blind with cleaning products.

I'd recommend checking the manufacturer's cleaning instructions first, as some blind fabrics and coatings may not be suitable for steam cleaning. If you're unsure, test it on a small, inconspicuous section first. Keep the steam cleaner moving rather than concentrating the heat in one area, and wipe away the loosened grime with a clean microfibre cloth as you work.
