How to use Ryobi OLT1832 line trimmer?

I'm having trouble with my Ryobi OLT1832 line trimmer. I've searched the internet but haven't found anyone describing precisely the same issue. I pull the line out to the length required to just touch the guard. When I start up, any little excess gets clipped off. But within 10 seconds or so, the length of the remaining line within the guard has been shredded to only about 8cm long, rendering it useless as a trimmer. I've replaced the line (with the recommended spool) and it made no difference. Any thoughts on what might be causing this problem?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your Ryobi line trimmer.

Sometimes the spool is not sitting in properly or is facing in the other direction. I suggest having a look at this guide - RYOBI® Line Trimmer Spool Replacement /Easy String Line Change Tutorial. If you still have your Ryobi manual the reloading sequence is also shown on page 12. Please double check that the rubber band has been removed from the spool if it has one.

If the unspooling keeps happening, I recommend bringing the trimmer to your local store and speaking to the power gardening specialist. They will be able to perform extended trouble shooting steps and find out if the unit is not working properly.
