How to make a DIY magnetic noticeboard?

I am wanting to create a framed magnetic notice board for our living/kitchen area. The wall space I want to hang it in is 40cm w x 80cm tall (so wanting to place the magnetic sheet in a frame approx 30x60). I am thinking I want to use the Bunnings product: Australian Handyman Supplies 600 x 300 x 0.55mm Galvabond Mini Sheet for the board itself, but I want to ensure 1) it's paintable (as I want a different colour to the metal) and 2) that it actually is magnetic! Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @holly.d. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating a magnetic board.

You might like to read through this project I submitted a while back: Create a kids magnet board. In it, I use a 1200 x 600 x 0.55mm Galvabond Mini Sheet and cover it with Boyle 1.5m x 45cm Self-Adhesive Film - White Gloss. Being a steel sheet, magnets will stick to it.

It is possible to paint galvanised sheeting, but you'll get a far better finish if you apply self-adhesive film over it. My children have been using the magnetic board I created for several years now and the film has held up tremendously.
