How to install timber for outdoor patio curtains?

Hi guys

I need to put some timber from cement wall to one of the pillar, so that I can install outdoor curtains.

In the picture, Pink is where I like to have the timber. This side of the house faces intense sun and rain.

The Green one is existing one, which I will not have any issue to install the curtain.

The cement surface is where the main bedroom is, hence I would like to be careful before I make any mistakes there.

Hi @Sugar,

When you say the wall is cement, do you mean it is brick or block with render applied over the top? From what I can see, that seems likely, but I thought it would be important to check.

For the sake of consistency and aesthetics, I would use a timber in the same size as the one you've marked in green. It looks like it is either 140x45 H3 Framing or 190x45 H3 Framing.

You could attach the timber to the post using suitably sized bolts, potentially these https://www.bunnings.com.au/zenith-m12-x-150mm-hot-dip-galvanised-cup-head-bolts-and-nuts-each_p2444250 , then assuming the wall is rendered brick, use a suitably sized structural bracket such as this https://www.bunnings.com.au/dunnings-65-x-65-x-5-x-140mm-m12-structural-angle-bracket_p1070436 to attach the timber to the house side.

You can use the same bolts to attach the timber to the structural bracket, with masonry anchors, such as these https://www.bunnings.com.au/ramset-10-x-75mm-galvanised-ankascrew-masonry-anchor_p2260280 to attach the bracket to the wall.
